This is applicable to larger extend to decide what not to include in home page of website. How to keep it simple, clean, avoid visual pollution, creating larger visual impact on visitors and communicating obviously main idea/message for which website is developed. ("Don't Make Me Think")
I am embarking on creating a portfolio, and yes idea behind creating personal website is to market my skills, showcase my achievements, projects that would ultimately help me positioning myself as competitive IT professional. Home page- only list/talk about things that are expected, like, (We scan webpages)

- Skills (may be showcasing developed apps, games, program etc.)
CLARITY TRUMPS CONSISTENCY
I am keeping HOME page bare-bone design simple and heater/footer/place and position of links, navigations consistent on all sub-pages. Purposes of navigation
